Reality Blog: You Already Have an Area of Writing Expertise…

  1. Candice, definitely! But I write in riddles because, my life is an awesome riddle. For instance, it came to me to create a new heading for my business blog. I wanted to apply what I learned. I downloaded the Spacious Theme. Proceeded to create my header. I remember my resumes. My daughter is a professional in that field so, I have an old and a recent one. Low & behold! That child of mine put some professionalism in my creativism!

So, I invested all day today adjusting the info, making it fit with what I am calling my ‘Persuasion’ letter. Then, I decided to take a look at your article. Wow! You just confirmed what I am doing, but! The best part is how exciting it is to experience the Father/Creator’s doings in my life.

I don’t know what I am doing but! Father knows. Father leads me all the way. My deficiencies as well as my strengths are all under His loving control. I live an enviable life all alone without the price one has to pay for company. But of course, I have bickered about the absence of my Ahmad, my children, my friends and what have you until…this day! Quoting a small paragraph from the post I am about to publish,

….”I thank You for this place. I thank You for my supplies. I thank You for everything but, most of all? I thank You for Your Presence. O my Father—O Father of mine? I thank You for keeping Ahmad and my children and my friends away from me. You are my Portion. I don’t want anyone else but You.
Wow! That is that! I am One with You. Outside of You, I do not wish to be One with anyone else. Each one of Your children has the right to our inheritance. Unfortunately, we are all prodigal sons or daughters—we have claimed our spiritual inheritance. We have wasted it away by the power of our carnal minds. We are coming now to the end of such spiritual treasure. What now?”….

Reading your article answers my now what? Proceed with the leading to sort out all the niches opened up with my resume or the summary of my working life. Isn’t that something? Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  2. Every time I think about using my previous job as inspiration for my writing niche…I want to vomit in my mouth a bit…
I spent 20 years as a school custodian. It was not fun. In fact, I had to quit because it ruined my back and I am on disability.
I turned to writing because I was working on my English degree before injuring my back.
Sorry, didn’t mean to go on and on but do you see why I would be squeamish about this?
Or am I being a dufu? Should I just suck it up and try anyway?
Your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!

    1. Hi Teri,

You don’t need to write for custodians per se. The question is, how can you make your experience relevant for something else?

You have a bad back (which I’m sorry to hear about). Have you researched your condition over the years? If you have, then you’ve developed some expertise in that area. And if you enjoyed it, you might want to consider healthcare writing.

And you’ve had 20 years of experience behind the scenes. You know how to get things ready and keep them running smoothly with minimal disruption. Can this translate into something related to B2B writing?

Don’t do something you hate. Figure out what aspects of it can be turned into something you like.

I hope this helps – best of luck!
      Candice
