What good advice, Mindy. Dan Kennedy is quite a genius and I have enjoyed his books. What a great opportunity you had.
I made the mistake in March of consulting with a non-profit. I gave them advice on social media for an hour. In the end they decided to take my advice and do it themselves! They sent me a nice “thank you” letter, which as you know doesn’t pay the bills.
Now I don’t give advice for free. I talk to people on the telephone for free, but if they want specific strategies, I charge – and Site Audits Made Simple has helped me really give value for my advice.
Your May challenge is very scary for me. The April challenge wasn’t so bad because I have some experience with bartering. I’ve got 2 ad agencies in mind and next week I’m going to craft a letter to them. (I’m putting this in my comments so I really write the letter!)
I’m stoked to know you’re taking on the May Challenge. I can relate to the scary part – I tried this approach two years ago and kind of bombed (but then again, I didn’t really have much faith in my skills at the time). So here’s hoping this time goes better!
Sorry to hear about the non-profit back-pedaling on a job, but good for you for figuring out a way around it next time. I hope other readers learn from what we’ve shared here.
