I just read "The $36,000 Man" by Joshua Boswell in The Golden Thread.
I realized that I am the $50,000 man and need to figure out a way to crack the shell around my thinking. I purchased the Six Figure copy writing course and began diligently working my way through the courses. Two, maybe three or four units into the course the study sessions began to spread further and further apart.
Looking back at that time through the lens of "The $36,000 Man" I think I can account for the getting lost. I read the American Express copy that generated a billion dollars in sales, decided it was luck, that I was not lucky enough to write such a piece.
Yeah, I hear the howls. No one howled louder than I this rainy, icy, 40mph hour gusts waiting for my shift to start at a job I now hate and wondering if I would be on a sandy hot Philippines beach right now if I had not let the bad think drive me off the road.
The biggest key to success is a willingness to start over again in the face of each setback. You are on the right track! Keep it up, and you will reach your goals.
I echo what Heather said. There's a great quote by H. Jackson Brown that seems relevant here:
"In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins – not by strength but by perseverance."
When I first realized I wasn't naturally brilliant at writing, I didn't see much point in continuing. But then I got involved with Peer Reviews and got in the habit of keeping at it, day after day. My copy is constantly strengthened by the writers around me, so I'm learning to use that strength to move forward. I'm glad you're here with us – keep writing in and letting us know how it goes. We won't let you "drive off the road" again!
Hello happy Freelance Writers! I am delighted to be here as a new Member and push forward along with all of you!
To me, it’s a place to begin again~
where dreams of financial freedom are an everyday, attainable reality.
As a lifelong Visual Artist and Creative Copywriter, I realized decades ago that the corporate style of 9-5 workdays are not a place for me and my creative impulses. I’ve worked in so many industries, so many roles!
As life happens, I certainly relate to the ambiguities of time management.
I feel for you! I’m currently in the position where I “make it or break it.”
I need financial security, while desiring financial freedom. I’m a Mom, grandmother and individual who wishes to make time for all my passions. Still as I feel young enough to continue reaching for the stars, aging stops for no one. That’s why I’m here. I cannot logically continue making art alone if I’m not selling consistently enough to support myself. I also cannot focus on studio based work when I’m worried about eating and paying the bills. Much less, can I not apply for “jobs,” expecting a quick financial fix that is never going to feel sufficient or secure.
I hope to continue encouraging others to show up and stick to a daily routine that works for them- and not for someone else. Time Management defined for me: the one crucial element to becoming- and staying self- sufficient!
Let’s go get our due for all the work we put in!

Again.
I will start again. Today.
Hope everyone is doing well.
