I’m making slow strides in my journey this year. I wanted to be further along than I am, but the day job’s been so busy this year that I’m quite tired once I get home. One thing I do want to research is ways to keep myself motivated while I continue to work the day job and freelance on the side. Any suggestions are welcome Mindy (or anyone else too!)
Excellent points — I can so relate, especially to the exhaustion. One thing that helps me is taking a few minutes at the top of each day to visualize the outcome I want as a result of achieving my goals. I play a song on my computer before I do anything else, and I close my eyes or look out the window at the mountains and think of the end result of all these goals — the things I want for my family, and for myself. That keeps me focused in the hours of work (and sometimes disappointment) that follows those few precious minutes.
Hi Mindy –
You look great and your monthly goals are sooo ambitious! Good for you on getting so much done. You mentioned some books you had on your list. Could you share the titles? I’m always looking for some new info. Thanks!
Marissa
The books are:
Stephen King’s “On Writing”
“On Writing Well” by William Zinsser
and Strunk and White’s “Elements of Style” (or Elements of Grammar, I forget!).
Let me know if you like them. I’ve read portions here and there, but haven’t made it through any of them yet.
A long time ago, I was watching a movie about this guy who knocks down 15 or more villains, before he comes face-to-face with this old, Korean gentleman, who watched the whole thing in a calm and detached manner. “Impressive,” says this gentleman, adding a subtle nod of approval. He says this single word with just the right enunciation and with a look of pure rapture. He says it in a way that captures the essence of the fast-action scene.
So, all I have for you, Mindy, is one word: “Impressive!”
I have a huge smile on my face right now, thanks to you!
By the way, even in this small post you show tact and conciseness and skill with your writing … I can’t wait to see what the coming months hold for you. 🙂

If you try it, let me know how it goes!
