The Reality Blog: Having The Courage To Say NO To A Low-Paying Client

  1. Oh Mindy, I hear you! After I did the AWAI 6-Figure Copywriting Course, read Peter Bowerman’s book and basically, had a serious self-talk session, I knew that I just had to say “No”. As someone who started writing for very little money to begin with, it’s taken me long to reach the point where I command the fees that I’m worth and best part, don’t feel guilty about asking for them.

I agree, it is totally a confidence thing. Thank you SO much for sharing this and Yay! for you:-)

    1. Hi Prerna,

I relate exactly to all you said — thanks for sharing! I’ve often wished I could be one of those people who just jumps straight to the “I-know-I’m-worth-it” category, but at least this other journey has taught me a lot. 🙂

Keep me posted on your success — I’d love to know!

  2. Amen and amen! I just completed an assignment for a fairly new client. I’m afraid I’ve taught him that I’ll take very little. It was a small assignment, but I should have charged him twice as much. GRRRRRR…

Thanks for your post; I really needed to read this today.

    1. Hi Steve,
Congrats on the new assignment! But I know exactly what you mean about charging too little. It’s particularly bad when you KNOW someone would have paid more if you’d have just named a different number. Live and learn, I guess. I keep myself going with the thought that “it can only get better!!”

      Best,
      Mindy
