A good resource for “unlimiting” yourself is the book Mindset by Carol S. Dweck.
Chris Brogan has created an “Escape Velocity Bookshelf” on Amazon that I think is a great idea. He has listed books that have helped him overcome himself to be successful.
Any suggestions on how to deal with a Spouse who is controlling and bossy? I have allowed myself to get out-of-the-box and not have every moment planned and enjoy the life of non-self debasement! But, I really am puzzled how to get her to do the same!
Hmmm….good for you, Joel, for moving toward what sounds like a much more enjoyable life than the alternative. As for your wife, I’m certainly no expert, but it seems like the people I’ve known in life who are most controlling are the ones who are most afraid of losing control because they’re terrified of what it might mean (e.g., abandonment, financial ruin, losing everything, disappointing other, etc.). Personally, I’m a big fan of positive encouragement – in other words, assuring somebody that they’re worst nightmares WON’T come true if they ease up, and that if they do, then you’ll be there going through it with them…
Don’t know if that helps, but best of luck!
Ooh – great tips, Julie – thanks! You always know of the best resources. Thanks for sharing with everybody. I especially like Chris Brogan – will definitely have to check that out!
