Reality Blog: How Twins Were Born, and Why I Had to Choose a Favorite

  1. Great advice on how to spend time. I am actually creating several sites too. Some are niche content sites for affiliate marketing and passive income, then others are actual service businesses. Your post did help as I see how one site can fuel another even if the hierarchy of importance and time devoted to either becomes “different”. Thank you!

    1. I’m glad the article was helpful Gloria. I too have thought about creating niche sites for affiliate marketing, but decided they would distract from my main goal… and be too time-consuming.

Keep us all informed on your progress and successes. I’ll be interested to see how you juggle a few sites at once. I found the most difficult part was keeping up with social media for both websites. Regards.

  2. Hi Andrew,
I somehow missed reading this post and didn’t notice until I was looking for something else. But I’m here now, and glad that I am. It was informative as always. I love the point you made about trying to give yourself equally to your businesses and not ending up with enough time and energy for yourself. Your metaphor is pretty good, too. As the grandmother of twins, I can attest to the difficulty of giving them each enough time, energy and love. I can’t imagine what I’d have done with triplets – like your three businesses.
Anyhow, I am working two businesses at once now. But, I can only do it because they are more like conjoined twins. The one business (the one I blog for with my business hat on) gains me audience, traction and credibility for the other (the one I blog for with my teacher hat on). While the second business is meant to become a money-making website, and one day a more or less passive income source, it is a tough market to break into because there are some whales out there in the Internet ocean. So, I do both.
It slows me down on both. But, given the history I’ve shared with you before, I’m okay with that. My “kids” are on their own, with kids of their own. So, no family to support and reasons to want time for the people in my life mean that I need to learn the lessons of slower, steady growth. Although, I would love to grow to the point of hiring someone to take some tasks from me.
When I was first teaching, the administration decided to help me out by giving me a part-time aide. It was a lovely thought. The only problem was, I didn’t know my job well enough at that point to be able to make best use of the help. I think that’s where I am now. So, I’ll continue with my twins until I know how to make best use of help. Then, I’ll either hire someone or know which twin to put in the playpen in the other room. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your family.
